Reminder for all those Callers of Islam in the West. Who put Speech and Action before Knowledge, and they are busy with Calling and teaching others about the deen.

Don’t be like those who spend a lot of time being a Caller to Islam and traveling and Media such as Youtube and Facebook Fabulous. But spend little to no time with طلبة العلم و مسؤلية طالب العلم Seeking knowledge and the responsibilities of a student of knowledge.
What is contribute to Imam Shafee said in the poem:

“it is necessary to be preserved and patient and he does not even taste the meekness of learning for an hour, and you swallow the cup of ignorance for a length of your life.”

There are many Callers of Islam in the West spend more time making Youtube videos and Facebook and traveling to Speak than seeking knowledge.

You have some who never spent even 1 or 2 years seeking knowledge rather yet not even spending a week or two weeks together 40 hours in Seeking knowledge but you find them everywhere speaking about Islam calling to Islam and they have little to no knowledge at times have much misinformation. Many of them have hours and hours of videos on Facebook and Youtube but not even the equal of hours spending learning Islam the correct way with its people ahul ilm the people of knowledge our scholars.

Imam al Bukharee said in the book of knowledge

العلم قبل القول و العمل

” knowledge before speech and action”.

You have many callers in Islam in the West speech and actions is before the knowledge.

One must busy himself with knowledge before he goes out or made it his duty to call to Islam.

Over the years I watch many popular Callers who spent more time and years in-front of the people teaching & calling and do not have under their belts 72 hours or close to 100 hours in sitting with a scholar with learning the Deen. They are calling other to deen with mistakes, how many have you seen such as this and after years past this person comes and say he made such and such mistake here and there or say disown or disregard his older or later works due to mistakes. This is because putting speech and action before knowledge.

The worst of them are those who have mistakes and over many years they are still spreading their mistakes and falsehood and misguidance, we ask Allah for complete guidance.

  1. What about the callers to Islam who speak and advise but they themselves are far from acting upon what they call the people to. What do we say of those people?

    • Sister Umm Hijrah Amatullah Armand, those type of people you remind them and make dua for them, Allah knows the Unseen and what people do hidden and in the public. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The religion is nasehah (sincerity).” We said, “To whom?” He (peace be upon him) said, “To Allah, His Book, His Messenger, and to the leaders of the Muslims and their common folk.”

Ibn Baaz (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

One of the qualities and characteristics that the daa‘iyah (the one who calls others to Allah) should – indeed must – have is that he must act upon what he calls people to and he should be a good example of what he is promoting. He should not be one of those who call people to something then fail to do it themselves, or who tell people not to do something, then do it. That is the state of the losers; we seek refuge with Allah from that. As for the believers who will succeed, they call people to the truth and act in accordance with it, striving and hastening to attain it, and keeping away from that which they tell others not to do.

from Majmoo‘ Fataawa Ibn Baaz, 1/346

For the one who falls short by sinning and he is calling to Allah enjoining what is right and forbidden what is wrong, and he falls into sin, rather he should seek forgiveness of his sins and continue to call to Allah, as stated in this fatwaa:

      The Standing Committee was asked:

If I exhort my brothers and warn them against certain sins, but I myself fall into those sins, am I regarded as a hypocrite?

The Committee replied: You have to repent from sins and exhort your brothers to avoid them. It is not permissible for you to commit sins and fail to advise your brothers, because this is combining two sins. You have to repent to Allah from that whilst still advising your brothers. That is not hypocrisy, but you have fallen into something for which Allah criticises those who do it, as He, may He be glorified, says (interpretation of the meaning):

“O you who believe! Why do you say that which you do not do?

Most hateful it is with Allah that you say that which you do not do”

      [as-Saff 61:2-3]

“Enjoin you Al-Birr (piety and righteousness and each and every act of obedience to Allah) on the people and you forget (to practise it) yourselves, while you recite the Scripture! Have you then no sense?”

      [al-Baqarah 2:44].
